Merry Christmas from Animation studio Laika

Laika Animation studio (Coraline) wishes everybody happy holidays
with an appropriate service announcement.

On the basis of a nice cartoon Laika wishes everyone a nice holiday. That you can, of course, not as animation studio better than with a short animation. On the honours of the studio are under other Corpse Bride and Coraline, two beautiful animation films that were both nominated for Oscar for a Best Animation film.

With the return of Henry Selick to Walt Disney (and Pixar?), Laika has a great asset lost, but the studio continues to prop up making a lot of commercials and other commerncieel work. Let the hope that the future new plans for animated films.

Christmas is a time of giving, so for my last pre-Christmas column, I'm going to give you the gift of people who are more talented than me. Each of these webcomics started this year, or late-ish last year, and each is worth your hard-earned minutes of staring at a screen for free.

Scenes From a Multiverse
Jon Rosenberg has been making web comics since before anyone ever heard of The Penny Arcades and Questionable Concepts. And this year he has pelted us with a new comic, one set essentially in his own shudderingly original imagination. Plus, it gets all Web 2.0 on you, with a weekly vote for which destination to visit again the next week.

Axe Cop
Everyone's heard of Axe Cop, but if I left it off I'd get mail from people telling me I forgot Axe Cop. Written by a child, drawn by an adult, if it were edited by an old man it would be a great answer to a sphinx riddle. But as it is, it's merely a devastatingly brilliant comic about a cop with an axe whose name I forget.

Manly Guys Doing Manly Things
It's a concept so simple, only an innocent child or a genetically enhanced European magpie could have thought of it. God knows which Kelly Turnbull is, but this is her hilarious comic about-muscled video game and movie characters, plus one skinny Pokemon trainer. With a nice mix of story lines and one-off gags, this is the perfect comic for anyone who enjoys pleasure.

Bath Machinery
While there are dozens of newspaper comics about children and their adorable throw-ups, there are relatively few web comics dealing with childhood. Overall, my grade school years are something I'd rather forget and erase from history, but that doesn't keep me from enjoying Bath Machinery, which is mostly about British kids solving mysteries. John Allison, who previously created Scary-Go-Round, has a knack for crisp dialog and expressive art that almost makes the recurring school yard nightmares go away.

Troll Science
It's in panel form and posted to the web, so I'm going to call it a webcomic, although you could also call it an exercise in crowdsourced smartassery. Drawn by the infinite fingers or 4chan and starring the Internet's own Trollface, this is a series of scientific inventions that would probably almost certainly in all likelihood not work, along with simply shocking commentary. There are Troll Science repositories all over the web, but the one linked is a good sampling.

Everything Dies
Box Brown's comic defies categorization. Part autobiography, part illustrated history, part philosophical musing, the strip has a gloomy mood and a deeply thoughtful nature. In a web full of irony and posturing, it's nice to read something genuine and heartfelt. Brown also publishes a series of print comics featuring completely separate content from the website, so that's nice if you like objects.

Ellie on Planet X
Ellie is a charming robot exploring a far-off planet and befriending those lacking the very strange inhabitants thereof. The Strip's only been around since February, but the personality just jumps out of every panel and the story has a classic, all-ages approach without feeling like a retread of a newspaper comic. The strip seems to have settled into pretty regular updates, and I hope Ellie lasts at least as long as the Mars Exploration rovers.

Nice look behind the scenes of Raffel

An interesting look behind the scenes of Raffel shows how the voice actors completely absorbed in their role to play by everything after what happens to the animated characters.

Motion capture, but without the motion capture. That's pretty much the idea behind the fun making-of of Raffel. Director Gore Verbinski chose his actors (including Johnny Depp, Bill Nighy, Isla Fisher, Abigail Breslin and Timothy Olyphant) the script to let them play and their actions to film. That material was later used as a reference for the animation creators of Industrial Light & Magic.

Although more intensive, more expensive and time-consuming, it seems this way of working me much more natural than to a rapid reading a script in a recording Studio. Certainly because a good actor still no good voice actor. That problem is in this way for a piece of bypassed and the actors also more realistic to ' play ' in an animated film.

Raffel is in Belgian cinemas expected on 2 March 2011. The Dutch release follows on 10 March 2011. More about the animation film can be found in the previous posts. The recent trailer for the comic western was promising.

GitS: SSS 3D, panty & stocking, Suzumiya Haruhi

The beginning do GitS: SSS 3D, which now yesterday released a first trailer. Of course you cannot see the stereoscopic 3D animations. But we see how the animation quality or basic appearance are ever.

Then something else I've guessed recently already because that but quite important: panty & stocking with Garterbelt Gets a second season. You learn that at the end of the 13th. and last episode.

To the Haruhi novels. On the 25. May 2011 is the newest volume which bears the name Suzumiya Haruhi no Kyougaku (surprise Suzumiya Haruhi), published simultaneously in 13 countries! The first part will cover band 10, the second part is rumored band 11, then. More details will be on 29. January revealed. Strange is that there is only the light novel in English until volume 4. And then been band 10 to come out? Especially since volume 5 only for the 7. July announced nomads… Therefore, the 13 countries will be probably only East Asian.
But I didn't even know that there is in 13 languages. Or perhaps you are simply those countries, in which appears the same issue as in other countries. Anyway, I'll read until then (hopefully) still remaining me volumes 2, 3 and 4 have Since months or weeks to have only days…

Tokyo adopted Bill 156

Note, nothing banned is things that anyway already not intended for minors, are affected. As before implicitly mentioned, real content with real people, such as photographs are also not affected.

Eiichiro ODA, one is responsible for one of the most entertaining manga ever: one piece. Now the question how much deserves a luminary of the manga ever arises t?rlich.

Photo model Zoolander gets own animated series

Zoolander, the superficial model that wondered "or was there more to life than just ridiculously good looking" (with the emphasis on ridiculous), returns in an animated version.

In 2001 the world knowledge with the famous photo model Derek Zoolander. That wacky character was played by Ben Stiller, which the movie Zoolander also directed. His company, Red Hour Films, now works for Paramount Digital Entertainment to a series of short animations.The episodes, which is about five minutes, will appear directly on the Internet

Stiller hopes again his comic peers Owen Wilson and Will Ferrell to tie for a roll in the animated series. If the webreeks popular shows, there may be a full-fledged television series, games and even theatrical films from growing.

It wouldn't surprise me if this new series is a way to wrists or is there still interest for the character Zoolander.For months after posts on diving on a possible continuation of the feature film.

Strong earnings boost world stock markets

' LONDON--

World stock markets mostly rose Thursday as traders put aside uncertainty about the size of the Federal Reserve economy-boosting bond purchase plan to sort through a raft of earnings reports.

Major companies such as Shell, Daimler, and Bayer offered upbeat results in Europe, though AstraZeneca and Banco Santander disappointed.

Asia's Hyundai said its profits rose while in the U.S., shares in ExxonMobil Corp., Eastman Kodak Co. and Motorola Inc. also gained after their earnings releases.

Britain's FTSE 100 index was up 1 percent at 5,699.84 and Germany's DAX was up 0.9 percent at 6,626.35.France's CAC-40 was 1.1 percent higher at 3,857.79.

Asian markets mostly closed higher and Wall Street rose on the open-the Dow industrials average was 0.3 percent higher at 11,164 while the Standard & poor's 500 was up 0.4 percent at 1,216.

"Investors are still very much focused on the company news flow from the earnings front," said Song Seng Wun, an analyst with CIMB Research in Singapore. "Earnings may drive individual stock performance rather than the broader market itself."

Energy stocks were broadly higher after Shell reported a rise in profits due to higher oil prices and production levels.ExxonMobil disappointed expectations but its shares still gained.Financial shares, meanwile, were hurt after Banco Santander, the euro Sun's largest bank by market capitalization, warned that the outlook for Europe had worsened.

The auto sector was buoyed after Daimler and Hyundai reported strong gains, while chemicals maker BASF saw its earnings jump on an improvement in demand from industry.

Economic indicators, while overshadowed by the earnings, were broadly positive. A survey by the European Commission showed economic sentiment rose in Europe in October to the highest level since late 2007.German unemployment fell back below 3 million for the first time in two years and U.S. first-time jobless claims fell unexpectedly last week.

Sentiment was shaken earlier this week by reports that the size of the Fed's bond purchase may amount to a few hundred billion dollars, falling short of the $ 500 billion to $ 1 trillion previously estimated in the market.

The bond purchases would be aimed at driving interest rates lower and encourage lending and spending in a bid to spur the economy.

The Fed will meet next week and details of any stimulus are expected to be announced when the meeting wraps up Nov. 3.

In Asia, Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 stock index closed down 0.2 percent to 9,366.03 and barely reacted to the Bank of Japan's widely expected decision to leave its key interest rate unchanged at zero to 0.1 percent.

The central bank also cut its economic growth forecasts and gave more details or a $ 61 billion asset purchase program to help revive the Japanese economy, which is being battered by a strong yen and persistent deflation.

Manga pop opera ' prepares to take Europe by storm

The heroes of Japanese manga cartoons are preparing to take Europe by storm in a new "pop opera" featuring a wild mix of martial arts and music billed as the world's biggest manga show ever.

The tour starts on Saturday in Paris before going on to Belgium, Germany and Italy.AFP was invited to a rehearsal in the city of Pomezia near Rome, where Japanese performers spoke about a unique show tailored to Western audiences.

"My character is a happy boy with guts and he never gives up to reach his goal, whatever it costs," said Shiina Taizo, 24, who plays the role of Naruto.

Taizo is a star in Japan but little-known in Europe.He said this is actually no bad thing: "Here I can visit all the sights with complete freedom."

The show is being organised by Japan's biggest production houses and publishers of the comics and cartoons, which are wildly popular in Japan and have a growing following especially in Europe and the United States.

Japan Anime Live will feature previously unpublished episodes and performers sing in Japanese.The lyrics appear in phonetic spelling on a giant karaoke screen with the English titles: "Tonight," "you'll find a way" and "Sail."

The stage is dominated by a giant Japanese drum and multiple screens show manga characters with multi-coloured hair, futuristic uniforms and giant eyes.

The manga aesthetic reigns supreme at this ultra-Japanese show but producers said they're not only expecting manga fans to come.

"We're expecting fans of Japanese culture, but also a more mainstream public.Families too.It's an opportunity for dads to share this moment with their children, "said Fabrizio Verdiani, the producer for the Belgian show.

"There's also a third type of public.University students who love manga. "

Verdiani said that three-quarters of the 3,000 seats available for the show in Brussels on October 29 have already been sold.

"All the actors are very well known in Japan.The musicians too.The artistic director is a living god over there and the producer is the biggest producer in Japan--a market with 300 million consumers, "he added.

The show, which lasts two and a half hours, is divided into five sections shaped around five major manga series: Naruto Shippuden, One Piece, Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and Gundam Series.

Piko, a young singer who is very popular in Japan, and Daisuke Asakura, known for his computer game soundtracks, are both set to take the stage.

The show starts on Saturday in Paris, followed by Brussels on October 29, Dusseldorf on October 31.It will then return to Italy for shows in Milan on November 6, Florence on November 11 and Rome on November 13.

The film is directed by Kresten Vestbjerg Andersen and Thorbj?rn Christoffersen and is a production of Einstein Movies.

The story revolves around a young Ronal, barbarian with low self-esteem. The exact opposite of all those muscular men in his village. He is a wimp, but fate makes sure he is the only one that his village of doom can save when the Commonwealth Lord Volcazar all barbarians kidnaps. Silly Bandz: The latest craze to be banned

Those stretchy, colorful, spaghetti-thin bracelets that are all the rage with the grade-school set are getting banned from more and more classrooms because teachers say the silicone jewelry has become a major distraction.

Some children line their arms — wrist to elbow — with Silly Bandz.They sort them, trade them, steal them, convene them and flick them.

La Jolla elementary school was the latest campus to ban the Bandz last week after virtually every teacher agreed the wrist wear was causing problems.

"We have kids playing with them instead of doing their work.Kids take them off in class, and at recess they trade them, "says Principal Donna Tripe, who said nearly every student complied with the ban when it started Friday.

The trend began last year at certain campuses nationwide, but the rubber band-like bracelets didn't really creep into San Diego County classrooms until school resumed this summer in many parts of the region.

The bands, which cost about $ 5 for a pack of 24, are popular with both boys and girls. They come in a variety of colors and shapes — from pumpkins to princesses to footballs to frogs.

Like Pokemon and baseball cards before them, the bands are the latest obsession — and playground currency — for children.They're also the latest items to be banned on campuses.

Fausto Barragan, principal at North Terrace elementary school in Oceanside, said students are sent to his office about three times a week about Silly Bandz trades gone bad or accusations or stealing.

"They need me to investigate who stole Silly Bandz.My biggest concern on this campus is that they are a distraction, "said Barragan, who plans to issue a schoolwide ban soon.

At Jerabek elementary school in Scripps Ranch, the popular bracelets are outlawed in select classrooms.At the same time, the bracelets are among the rewards that students can get for good behavior.

"We have no problem with them during recess or lunch," said Vice Principal Vicki sandy beach."It's up to a teacher's discretion whether or not to ban them."

Now unless IKA Musume is know squid girl or something. IKA (??) is the Japanese term for squid. Maybe it's a Yes or others noticed that the episode name as questions formulated. This has a nice background: IE which the Japanese like make a pun. It is with the word IKA. Each episode title ends with nai ka?, this is a specific extension for a question.Don't know how you on German called This form is simply so that as usual for example: I am the strongest?, writes, but: I am not the strongest?

Pixar animator Kyle Balda speaks in Rotterdam

On the Rotterdam Image Festival will take place tomorrow (Saturday 30 October) an interesting masterclass. Kyle Balda, an animator that his Pixar, there will be talk. About animation, or how about you.

The Image Festival in Rotterdam is an event where illustration, animation and graphic design in the Viewer.One of the many professionals who will speak about his experiences is Kyle Balda.

Illumination is Pluto film

Illumination has bought the rights of Pluto. Not that dog, but an action-packed thriller in which an inspector behind a mysterious serial killer.

Pluto is the name of a 65-piece manga series of Naoki Urasawa. The futuristic strips take place in the future and are based on the work of Osamu Tezuka, whose Astro Boy is still just a little better known. The exciting story revolves around Gesicht, a robot that works for Europol. He is investigating a series of brutal murders of robots and humans. Everything suggests that the murders were committed by a robot.No such thing has been in eight years more happened because each machine complies with rule 13: no robot may hurt or kill a man.

Illumination Entertainment wants the successful manga to the white canvas. The makers of blockbuster Despicable me want of Pluto, however, make a movie in which live action and computer animation are interwoven.

New trailer for Gnomeo and Juliet

The British fans of Gnomeo & Juliet got a trailer with new clips from the original animation film. Thanks to the Internet can benefit everyone happy.
